The Workout Remix: Intense Training Styles to Keep You Growing

Variety is the Spice of Life

Dear Community,

Ever feel like there are as many "perfect" exercise routines as there are fitness coaches promoting them? It's true, and when you finally discover a regimen that delivers results, it's natural to cling to it. After all, why fix what isn't broken? But while consistency is king, even the most effective routines can eventually lead to plateaus, and your motivation can dwindle with endless repetition.

If you're ready to inject some fresh energy and challenge into your workouts, this post is for you. We'll explore short, intense, and dynamic training styles designed to shatter stagnation, reignite your enthusiasm, and help you achieve new levels of fitness.

Every Minute on the Minute (EMOM)

An EMOM workout involves starting a specific exercise or set of exercises at the beginning of each minute for a set number of minutes. Once you complete the prescribed reps, you rest for the remainder of that minute. If the work takes you 40 seconds, you get 20 seconds of rest before the next minute begins and you repeat the work. This format helps build work capacity and can be used for both strength and conditioning. In the HealEra app, we automatically track your time.

Once you finish your work, press the button to enter the rest phase. The next round will start automatically.

As Many Rounds as Possible (AMRAP)

AMRAP is a workout structure where you aim to complete as many rounds or repetitions of a specific circuit or exercise as possible within a predetermined timeframe. For example, in a 12-minute AMRAP, you continuously cycle through the given exercises, counting your total rounds and reps. This method is excellent for pushing your limits, building muscular endurance, and cardiovascular fitness.

Tabata

Tabata is a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) protocol consisting of eight rounds of 20 seconds of all-out effort exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest. Known for its efficiency, Tabata significantly boosts both aerobic and anaerobic capacity in a very short amount of time.

Dr. Izumi Tabata Developed the Tabata Training protocol in the 1990s.

Dropset

A Dropset is an advanced strength training technique where you perform an exercise to muscular failure (or close to it), then immediately reduce the difficulty and continue performing more repetitions until failure again. This can be repeated for several "drops" without rest in between. Dropsets are used to maximize muscle hypertrophy by pushing muscles beyond their normal fatigue point and increasing time under tension.

Finding Your Next Challenge

So, if your trusty workout routine has started to feel more like a chore than a challenge, or if your progress has hit a wall, remember that your body and mind thrive on variety. The training styles we've explored – EMOM, AMRAP, Tabata, and Dropsets – offer powerful ways to inject new intensity, break through plateaus, and rediscover your motivation.

Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and experiment. Integrating even one of these methods occasionally can make a significant difference. Listen to your body, start smart, and get ready to experience a new level of engagement and results in your fitness journey!
