Insights from Muscle Ratio on Your Training Routine

Muscle balance is one of the most important things to keep in mind when trying to improve your physical health. We’ve heard basically every conceivable joke about skipping leg day. However, actually ignoring the advice may have some pretty bad consequences. To get the most out of your hard work, it is worth considering how different muscles harmonize with each other to create the most effective, and most healthiest, movement patterns.
For example, imbalances, such as an overdeveloped chest paired with an undertrained upper back, can lead to poor posture, joint strain, and slower progress. Muscle balance is essential for optimal performance, aesthetics, and, maybe most importantly, injury prevention. To take the guesswork out of the process, we ship HealEra with a feature we call ‘Muscle Ratio’, included in the Pro subscription. This feature helps you identify and address these discrepancies, ensuring your body functions as a well-rounded unit.
The Importance of Muscle Balance
Opposing muscle groups, like the chest and upper back, work in pairs. When one side becomes disproportionately strong, it disrupts your biomechanics. An overtrained chest, for example, can pull your shoulders forward, resulting in a rounded posture (with possible back problems awaiting in the future). A lower body example is the proportional strength between your quads and hamstrings. Weak hamstrings make your knees more prone to strain and introduce a multitude of problems.
Because different muscle groups naturally vary in strength and function, some need more focused training to stay balanced. For example, the muscles in your back are naturally stronger than those in your chest, so their strength isn’t meant to be equal. HealEra’s Muscle Ratio uses these natural differences to guide its measurements, prioritizing harmony in how muscles work together over making them all the same size. This approach is based on the scientifically researched strength ratios found in Periodization Training for Sports by Tudor Bompa.
Maintaining balance isn’t just about safety; It also enhances performance, allowing your body to move more efficiently and generate power more effectively. Basically, when training, you get more bang for your buck. As an added bonus, a symmetrical physique is both functional and widely regarded as more visually appealing.

How Does it Work?
HealEra provides a simple, color-coded chart in your profile, under the stats tab, to track your muscle balance. This intuitive visual makes it easy to spot issues and take action:
Green Zone: Optimal balance, keep it up!
Yellow Zone: Slight imbalance, adjust your training.
Red Zone: Significant imbalance, prioritize the weaker muscle group to guard against injury.

Applying the Insights
The Muscle Ratio feature is your roadmap to more effective training. By monitoring your stats and following the app’s guidance, you can create more effective workouts. Our training library is searchable by muscle.

Set your filters to find routines specifically aimed at the neglected muscle or body part.
If your chest is overpowering your upper back, your routine may include Pull-ups or Rows.
If your hamstrings are lagging behind your quads, Good Mornings or Nordic hamstring curls might be the solution towards improved balance.
